Viewing the US Open,

August 27, 2011 3:29 pm

August 27, 2011

Good day, I'm new to this group thing.
First I'll introduce with a quick post question.  Why not pre-empt the daytime soaps for more TENNIS\
I'm at home this week, not as a TV groupie I form to the religious sports guru areas alike.
I value ALL major sporting events and the major league of national television networks.
Time zones and delays for commercial favorisms place sports into weekend slots./  That is diminish fan appeals/

I look forward to view as many US Open Tennis Matches as possible; hoping for my favs.  #1, #2, and #3|
Much luck to you all\

so why do group posts here get such low points

February 16, 2010 2:02 pm

my last two posts here were 92 and 91 points and beside being flat out brilliant (ok draw your own conclushion) they were about a full page in length.  when i make posts in other places i get well over a hundred points for about half the amount of material.  where is the love?  are we trying to discourage people from posting to group sites?

Australian Open

February 1, 2010 10:27 am

I feel guilty rooting against Roger.  He really is a class act.  He is an incredible tennis player and one of the best of all time.  It is just that it seems so boring when the favorite wins.  Its also dull when the loser doesn't put up much of a fight.  Murray was right when he stated before the match that he would have to play his best match ever.  He didn't and he lost in straight sets.

My pick for the women's title also lost.  I picked Henin.  She has been my favorite for a couple of years because of her short stature and beautiful backhand.  I didn't change my Avatar even though she had retired.  I congratulate Serena.  I have found it hard to root for Serena at times and I am well aware of the history between Serena and Henin.  I also listened to the victory speech by Serena after the final and she was very friendly toward Henin and gracious.  It seems like she has gotten over past problems between them.  Last comment on Serena is that she may not have picture shots but she has a fire that wins.  The smart money doesn't bet against her.

My pick that did win the Title this year was the Bryan Brothers.  They are back in their customary number one position.  They also played their toughest competition in the final ~ Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonijc.  They had lost their last five head to head meetings with these two including the Wimbledon final.  Not only did they knock them off but the Bryans showed some real moxie with what is a huge change in doubles.  For years Bob the lefty has played on the deuce side while Mike has played the Add court side.  For this final they switched sides.  This is no small change in professional tennis.  Kudos for them for guts in the final of a Grand Slam.

Another kudo for the Bryans comes because of the toughness they showed after losing the second set.  They had won the first set in this best of 3 and were ahead 5 to 2 in the second set tie break.  Nestor and Zimonijc came back to win the tie break 7 to 5.  It tennis when you lose a lead like that it would be easy to wilt but the brothers didn't.  They won the 3rd set 6 games to 3 without having to face a break point.  Good Job guys.

My big question this year is how the U.S. will do in the Davis Cup.  With Roddick and  Blake both dropping out it will take on a new look.  The bryans of course will have the edge in the doubles point.  Isner and Querrey have some talent to win matches.  It will be challenging for them to knock off the big guns opposing them but it is not out of the question.  Cheers!!!

Happy New Year

January 2, 2010 12:53 pm

The New Year is starting and I am not a great one for New Years resolutions but it is still a good time to think about new things, new ideas and perhaps changes for 2010.  To begin with I will start posting to this group site for tennis in 2010 more often.  Hopefully others will post here and we will see some real activity.  Let me just make a quick comment on the ATP finals a few weeks ago and then a quick look at what is coming in 2010.

Davydenko winning the finals was indeed news for the finals.  He had been playing well at the end of the year and he faced an RF who doesn't seem to stike fear into people anymore.  Thats no slam on Roger.  He had four years as the man no one could compete with off of clay and only Rafa on clay.  He is the consensus GOAT (although that debate will never end).  This note is still about Nikolay and how he won the ATP tournament.  Every player under 6 foot tall has Nikolay to thank for a new confidence that those 6'2" and above guys can be beat.  A defensive ball retrieving baseline game won't do it but short corner cross courts putting pressure on the bigger guy just might.

A quick look at what to expect in 2010 shows a lot of promise.  The Belgium girls returning add a lot to the field.  Maria also is making a comeback and there are a myriad of Russian girls who never left.  Even though people may start to talk about the Williams sisters getting old they won't retire this year and the competition will bring out the best in them.  I won't even try to count how many former number ones are in the field.  It all adds up to excitement.

On the men's side even though RF doesn't strike the same fear in the competition he is still number one.  We also know that the list of guys who look forward to playing him is getting quite extensive.  Soderling just knocked him off for the first time.  Murray still has confidence against him outside of his island country.  Rafa is still Rafa and the Djoker can still beat anyone.  Delpo sure looks like he has more Grand Slams left in his racket and Arod still has his serve.  I usually wonder about someone new coming onto the scene.  Will Cilic or Ancic put together a season to challenge for number one?  What are the chances that a Gulbis matures?  Whose year does 2010 belong to in men's tennis?  Any suggestions?
